5 Important Amenities to Prioritize When Researching Your Airbnb

When planning any trip, finding the perfect accommodations has the power to greatly enhance your travel experience. With endless options available, it's important to be informed on the details of a listing and essential to prioritize certain amenities that align with your needs and preferences. In this blog post, I will explain why I prioritize certain amenities when researching through Airbnb to ensure an effortless getaway.

1. Location and Accessibility:
Even if the Airbnb is in the same city as your destination, it does not mean it will be convenient. Begin by considering the top activities and sights you want to visit; this will narrow down the general radius of where you would ideally be spending your time. Furthermore, if you plan on using public transportation, it is critical to be walking/ubering distance from a popular station. An additional bonus is if it’s located near a grocery store or in a pretty landscape. Prioritizing a central or easily accessible location can save you time exploring your destination and often more money.

2. Privacy
Some Airbnb listings do not provide the entire accommodation just for you. Sometimes they rent out “per room”, or the hosts are still living there during your stay. I have stayed in multiple Airbnbs that were “semi-private” and I had no problems (they typically are a lot cheaper too). But make sure to specify this difference before you book so you are fully aware of what you are paying for.

3. Essential Facilities: The are some standard amenities most of us cannot live without, but you would be surprised how they are not guaranteed in an Airbnb. So, find a review, a photo, or written description with proof of essential amenities such as air conditioning/heater, Wi-Fi, and bathroom. And in the worst-case scenario, if they are not as advertised you can get your money back. Assess your personal needs and preferences before you browse the website to ensure you are not swept away from the excitement of the trip and miss key information (guilty).

4. Reviews and Ratings:
Take the time to read reviews and ratings from previous guests. They provide valuable, user-generated insights into the overall experience, cleanliness, accuracy of the listing and host communication. Properties with positive reviews and high ratings increase the likelihood of a satisfying stay, due to the credible nature of customer reviews. Reading reviews can also help you avoid any random, unpleasant surprises.

5. Budget:
While amenities are important, it's crucial to consider your budget. Finding a good balance between desired amenities and affordability will help you make an objective and informed decision. Two of the easiest ways to save with Airbnb is to max out the permitted guests before the price increases (splitting up the total cost) and being mindful of the service and cleaning fees added after selection.
