Unique Things To Do While In Sylva

Sylva is a small town in North Carolina that is located about an hour west of Asheville. Though unknown by most, it holds an amazing combination of southern charm and natural beauty. After spending the holiday season around the area, I realized how many unique opportunities I had around town to make some incredible memories! So here are 5 unique things to do while in Sylva, North Carolina.

1. Mingo Falls

Inside the Cherokee Indian Reservation, Mingo Falls is a gorgeous waterfall with a tall and detailed cascade. The trail is less than half a mile and the majority of the inclined portioned has stairs. It is so cool to walk along the rocks and explore the natural beauty of the area!

2. Lucy in the Rye

Homemade. Biscuits. Need I say more? This small restaurant in Downtown Sylva is the definition of southern charm. Fresh squeezed orange juice paired with one of their breakfast sandwiches is something you have to try while you are here. And I mean come on, How cool was our table?!

3. Blue Ridge Parkway

The Blue Ridge Parkway is one of the more popular places in Sylva. This scenic road goes through North Carolina and Virginia with views of the Great Smokey Mountains. The sunsets on this road were absolutly amazing.

4. Jackson County Courthouse

I went to the Jackson County Courthouse for the annual firework show in downtown Sylva. It was beautifully decorated for the holidays, but would be just as gorgeous any time of the year. It is even known to be the most photographed building in all of North Carolina. It was super cool to explore in the center of downtown!

5. Lake Junaluska

This location was so incredible! It’s a serene area with the perfect set up for any kind of retreat! We drove around the lake to a hill that had a beautiful cross statue over the lookout. There were also benches around the cross, perfect for an amazing view, picnic, and picture spot. Definitely worth a stop!
