Medora: A Hidden Gem in North Dakota

Before visiting this unknown state, I knew next to nothing about what it inhabited. I returned from my travels with a new understanding and deeper appreciation for this beautiful land. Below I have documented my findings and shared with you everything that made the place so special to me!

1. Theodore Roosevelt National Park

This national park is an absolute MUST in any North Dakota itinerary. Staying in Medora, you will be extremely close to the south entrance of the park, which offers an endless view of the magnificent state.untouched by man. Exploring the winding roads and natural surroundings was my favorite park of the trip. You will see greenery, buttes, rivers, bison, along a glorious example of Earth’s curvature. (Make sure to bring snacks as there are little to no places to stop inside the park) One of my favorite stops was the Wind Canyon Trail. We went at sunset and it was the perfect romantic location to end the evening. It overlooks one of the best spots of the park to provide that surreal feeling, it's one of those places that overflows your soul with gratitude and awe.

2. Ice cream at Hatlee & Brae

Has to be some of the best ice cream I have ever had! I kid you not, we went back and had it for breakfast the next day. It is in a central location in the heart of Medora so there is no excuse not to check it out. It is connected to a cute, little gift shop which adds to the quaint vibe of the establishment. The people who live and work in Medora are some of the kindest people I have interacted with (which is thankfully, also exemplified with their scooping size).

3. Elkhorn Quarters

If you're looking for a place to stay in Medora, Elkhorn Quarters is the place. It is cabin designed and decorated while surrounded by the elevated buttes of North Dakota, perfect for acquiring the town’s aesthetic. Different style rooms are available and for an affordable price. There is a pool, picnic tables, and hammocks available for all guests which I found ideal for relaxation and community. It is also walking distance to all the shops and restaurants in Medora. Book your stay here: https://medora.com/elkhornquarters/

4. The Farmhouse Cafe

One of the most pleasant surprises I had in Medora was The Farmhouse Cafe. We walked from Elkhorn Quarters for a nice breakfast before heading over to Roosevelt National Park for the day. I was shocked to find a trendy decorated diner with the cutest set up! The delicious and fresh meal with the fun atmosphere was definitely worth the five minute walk.

5. Prairie Sky Breads In Minot

The city of Minot is about three hours from Medora, but offers a downtown/city area that Medora does not. We drove through there on our road trip to grab some pastries for the next few mornings and the reviews of Prairie Sky Breads did not disappoint. They have some of the best scones and cinnamon rolls I have ever had! Plus it has such a cute interior! Definitely worth a stop if you find yourself in the area.
