Areas I Visited In The Netherlands

Before I started researching for this trip, I knew next to nothing about the Netherlands. But this European country is so much to offer! Although there are regions that I did not have time to explore, here are some of my favorites:

Amsterdam

This city is by far the most well known place in the Netherlands. As you can imagine, the streets are filled with bikes, flower pots, historic buildings, and run alongside their iconic canals. Though there are no tulip fields in the city, there are many incredible places to checkout while you are here. Such as…

  • Van Gogh Museum

  • Anne Frank House

  • Lomanstraat

  • and more!

Lisse

Unfortunately, my day in Lisse had some pretty bad weather, but I still found it to be breathtaking. This area is much more rural and relaxed then Amsterdam and it has the second largest flower garden in the world: Keukenhof. This exhibit is a MUST if you ever are in or near the Netherlands. They has endless genusus of tulips and views that don’t even look real. You also have to rent a bike in the park so you can explore Lisse and get up close to all the fields in bloom.

Flevoland

This region is located about an hour from Amsterdam and has the perfect layout explore the local tulip fields as you wish. This is also where the Tulip Festival is hosted (so avoid going those dates to skip the traffic). There is also a virtual map of all the blooming fields of the season so you can map out your perfect route. This can be done by bike or by car. I will attach the link here: https://tulpenfestival.nl/routes-2023/.

Haarlem

This city is located about a 30 minute drive from Amsterdam and is where our Airbnb was during our trip. I found lodging to be significantly cheaper in Haarlem, but we did have to get taxis when we were coming to and from Amsterdam so it probably evened out. In my opinion, this is the cutest town with the nicest people (and significantly less crowded). Also, most of my favorite restaurants were in this city.
